Yoga accessories
Sometimes it seems like props are only for beginners or people with physical limitations. But in reality, accessories can be valuable for any yogi. They help you perform poses correctly, extend your reach, and provide extra support when needed.
More importantly, accessories encourage you to move mindfully. They remind you that yoga isn't about achieving perfect form, but about experiencing the process.
Whether you can't quite reach your hand to the floor in a triangle pose, want to relieve your knees during a long sitting meditation, or simply want to immerse yourself in a gentle relaxation: a prop can make that small difference between discomfort and surrender.
A selection from our collection
Blocks : Extension for floor
In standing poses, blocks can raise the ground, allowing you to maintain a straight back and open chest. In seated poses, they provide additional stability under the pelvis, allowing the spine to align more naturally.
Blocks are available in various materials, such as foam, cork, or wood. Foam offers softness and lightweight comfort; for strength and durability, cork is often a better choice.
Yoga Straps : Space without forcing
Yoga straps help connect when your flexibility doesn't yet allow you to directly connect two body parts. For example, when you can't hold your feet in a forward bend or bring your hands together in a shoulder stretch.
A strap prevents you from forcing your body to "get there." Instead, you create space in which you can relax and grow. With a strap, you not only extend your reach but also subtly work on strength and opening without putting pressure on your body.
Bolsters : softness in relaxation
Bolsters are elongated, firm cushions primarily used in yin yoga and restorative yoga. They support the body in poses where complete relaxation is the goal.
A bolster under the knees in savasana reduces pressure on the lower back. A bolster under the chest in a heart-opening pose can release tension without straining the body. Using bolsters allows the nervous system to feel safe and supported more quickly, deepening relaxation.
The value of conscious support
Using yoga accessories isn't a sign of weakness or inadequacy. It's a sign of listening—to your body, to your limits, to the possibility of growing from a place of gentleness.
Instead of forcing yourself into a pose, give your body the time and support to let the pose emerge from within. This sometimes requires more awareness than simply "going through."
In yin yoga, for example, props like bolsters, blocks, and blankets are often used. Not to make the poses easier, but to allow for a longer period of surrender, allowing the deeper layers of the body—connective tissue, joints—to open at their own pace.
How do you choose your accessories?
When choosing yoga accessories, it is important to feel what you need.
- Looking for strength and stability? Then cork blocks and sturdy bolsters are invaluable.
- Need lightweight props that are easy to carry? Then foam blocks and lightweight straps are ideal.
- Want softness and comfort while relaxing? Then a good bolster or extra thick blanket is essential.
Also pay attention to the materials: natural materials such as cork, cotton and organic rubber often feel more pleasant for those who are sensitive to smell or texture.
